Layla is the daughter from a long line of Amber's old nobility. It is rumored that the blood of Royals mingled into the line over the centuries but no one has ever bothered to investigate the claim.

Her family was moved from the ruins of Amber to help hold and stabilize the rich lands of Shadow Persa, a land out of the Arabian Nights rich in diverse gem mines, metals, wildlife and timbers, as well as home to the highly magical Djinn.

The Ancient and powerful Djinn of Persa have seen something in Layla that caused them to gift her unbidden with three things before she left for school: A custom made Juniper wand whose core is known to few, Tazdam al Djinn (Breath of the Djinn), an outstanding broom, personalized and designed expressly for Layla and layered with spells designed by Nel'annen, the Chief Djinn. The Djinn also sent one of their minor brethren, Rafiq, as her companion.

Always a strong figure within her House, she is now in her fourth and final year at the school, a Prefect in House Helgram and an outstanding Chaser on the House Quidditch team. While not a teacher's pet, she is the classroom favorite of her Head of House, Professor Bleys, who she clearly has a great respect for. Being from a noble family in a rich world, Layla has a large allowance and splurges a few times a year on her large group of friends, who are among the school's In-Crowd, or on the House Quidditch team in one way or another.

Since before their letters arrived, Layla's best friend has been Flynn O'Hanley, and there is very little they don't do together. Until recently, most people operated under the assumption that the two were an item, especially in their Third Year when Layla forcibly dragged the then bespeckled, geeky young artist into town and returned that evening with a completely made over and "now Seriously Hot", Mr, O'Hanley.

However, since the posting of their NEWTS, Layla's steady relationship with Professor Random, who she refers to as "ridiculously sexy" , has been made public.

It is rumored that Layla was marked in her Second Year as a potential, invited in her Third Year, and accepted into the ranks during the summer before Fourth Year as a member of the dark and highly secretive Hellfire Club. For those who believe it, they are equally split on whether she took the Collar or holds the Leash, or perhaps she has has managed to claim them both.

While Layla has avoided any personal interaction with the First Year, Maya, she has voiced her concerns to her Head of House, along with the concerns of others in her House. She sees the Pantheras as a disruptive influence that is sure to be agitating within a learning enviroment, what with the she-cat's pheromones running wild. She is of the opinion that the cat-demon has no business in a co-ed boarding school full of already hormonal teens at any time, but especially during oestrus. If the Pantheras has to be here, Layla feels she should be locked in the hospital wing for those weeks, for Maya's own safety as well as everyone else's. While not suspected of being the originator or leader of the movement, Layla is believed to be among a growing, clandestine group of male and female students intent on petitioning the administration for a pheromone surpressing potion to be given to the first year.
