First name meaning: This name was invented by Oscar Wilde for a character in his novel The Portrait of Dorian Gray, 1891. He probably derived it from the Latin name Dorianus, itself from a Greek tribal name. If so, the name simply means "Dorian" or "of the Dorian tribe."
The Dorians or Dorian Greeks (Greek: Δωριεῖς, Dōrieis, singular Δωριεύς, Dōrieus) were one of three ethnic populations (Ionians, Aeolians, Dorians) into which the ancient Greeks considered themselves divided. They were distinguished by language, society and historical tradition. Traditional accounts place their origins in the north, north-eastern regions of Greece, ancient Macedonia and Epirus, whence obscure circumstances drove them south into the Peloponnese, to certain Aegean islands, and to the coast of Asia Minor.
Late mythology gave them an eponymous founder, Dorus son of Hellen, the mythological patriarch of the Hellenes.
According to legend, the Dorians were named for the minor district of Doris in northern Greece. Their leaders were mythologized as the Heracleidae, the sons of the hero Heracles, and the Dorian incursion into Greece in the distant past was justified in the mythic theme of the "Return of the Heracleidae".

The name originated from the Latin "magnus" meaning "great" (from which a number of words in English have derived, such as magnificent and magnify etc). Emperor Charlemagne was known as "Carolus Magnus" (King of the Franks, King of the Lombards, and generally considered the first Holy Roman Emperor) and this prompted admirers to use Magnus as a personal name. St Olaf of Norway (born in 995) who seized the throne of Norway, enlarged it and introduced Christianity to the country, named his son Magnus.

He is not seen as an athletic person, he more spends time working with magic and studying in his room. Because he is trying to live up to his Surname of Magnus.

He is greatly interested in learning the "Darker" side of things as well.

Dorian has befriended a 2nd year student Selina Boemian. He first noticed her during the Sorting stone ritual, when she was sorted into House Chanicut. But it was not till his Defense against the mental arts classes, that she really started to stand out to him. Professor Brand assigned Dorian to Selina as a mentor. Scepital at first, but over time the two started becoming close. By the end of Selina's first year, they had become Best of Friends. With each watching the other's back, when they could. Now with the start of the new school year, it is any one's guess where they will end up.
