Character Creation Outline

Characters will begin the game with 150 pts. Blind bidding for stats will done before the beginning of the game (in other words, no auction). Characters will not know their rankings against one another unless they are familiar reguarding that attribute(i.e. they trained together, dueled, etc.). Characters will then buy Powers. Good and Bad Stuff are settled last.

Stats:
There are four Primary Stats and eight Secondary Stats. Players will buy Primary Stats at bidding and then divide those points into the Secondary Stats (a short example will be provided). The Stats are as follows:

Combat - innate ability at armed and unarmed combat

  • Strength - Physical might and toughness
  • Dexterity - Speed, precision and agility
Psyche - innate ability with occult powers
  • Power - Occult might and toughness
  • Focus - Integrity of self and subtlety at manipulating powers

Warfare - innate ability to manipulate persons and situations
  • Presence - Strength of personality, charisma, and ability to lead
  • Perception - Observation, quickness of thought, and intuition
Endurance - innate ability for physical and mental conditioning
  • Constitution - Healing and robustness of health, physical energy
  • Will - Stamina and available energy for mental and psychic effects

After spending points on each Primary Stat divide this amount of points into the Secondary Stats. You must put a minimum of 1/4 of these points into each Secondary Stat.Abbreviated Primary Stat Range (for activities that are purely related to a single Secondary Stat like lifting the rock with Strength just double the value of the Secondary Stat to see where this puts you):

0=Cripple
25=Very Talented(Amber)
50=Incredible
75=Phenomenal
100=Unstoppable

Example:
Joshua puts 40 pts of his starting 150 points into Combat (Primary Stat). When he divides this into his Secondary Stats he wants to be really fast and agile so he puts 30 pts into Dexterity (the maximum allowed) and this leaves 10 points for Strength (the minimum allowed).

Knacks:
For every 10 points of a Primary Stat, you may add a related "knack", something character specific and original. For example, "Chess Master" for Warfare or "Great Second Wind" for Endurance. This could act as a "tiebreaker" now and then, but primarily becomes character flavor.

The Classroom
[Note: you may do this only once, or multiple times if you so wish.]

+5 Teacher's Pet
+3 Apple Polisher
+2 Mentor - Older Student
+1 Studybuddy
0 Normal
-1 Slacker
-2 Cheater
-3 Class Clown
-5 Hatred

Teacher's Pet: You pick one of your teacher with GM approval. You are his/her pet student, able to get away with almost murder in their class. You will always get the benefit of the doubt and their praise for even the most minor tasks. But be warned, you also will be disliked by many in your class for that very reason... and there is always some upstart apple polisher that will be trying to subvert your position.

Apple Polisher: Yep, you're a favored student of one of your teacher. Good grades, help in class, and personal attention. You can't get away with murder, but the teacher will be extra nice to you.

Mentor- Older Student: For some reason, a older student has taken you under their wing to help you with homework from time to time.

Studybuddy: One of the smart ones (like a Hermione) helps you with your homework.. and may even let you cheat from their paper from time to time in class.

Normal: All role-playing for you, baby!

Slacker: With one teacher... you're a freaking slacker in their class. While said teacher isn't prepared to kick you out of their class... you do vex them at times. Note - this doesn't mean you are, just the teacher believes you are.

Cheater: You cheat on tests/homework/etc! The Teacher knows that, but has yet to catch you. Someday she/he will, and you will be kicked out for good from their class. Note - this doesn't mean you are, just the teacher believes you are.

Class Clown: You're the clown of the class, even when you don't mean to be. Laughter follows you around in that one teacher's class, even when you're not doing anything. You anger the teacher alot most days.

Hatred: You're Harry Potter, your teacher is Snape.. Deal with it!

Wands (& Flying Brooms)
+3 pts. - Unique
+1 pts.- Well-crafted
+0 pts. - Store bought
-1 pts. - Second-hand
-3 pts. - Broken

"Unique" would be something like Harry's wand. Maybe the better term would be 'fated' instead of 'unique'. But both 'unique' and 'well-crafted' add to your ability to cast a pre-picked spell type (like transfiguration, charm, curses, etc).

"Second hand" can be anything from 'I'm too poor to buy a new wand' to 'This is your dead Aunt Daphne's wand, I know she would want you to have it!’.

Rooms
5 pts – large private room with it’s own bathroom.
3 pts – small private room, with shared private bathroom down the hall.
1 pts- room with 1 other roommate (total 2 occupancy).
0 pts – normal room, 3 other roommates (so a total of 4 occupancy).
-1 pts – dorm (up to 10 students possible)

House Servant
8 pts. – More companion then a servant, trusted without question. Skilled and knowledgeable, trained in all the necessary arts (like magic, poison, love-making, etc) to serve you and protect your life. Having special permission from the Headmaster to attend to your needs, even allowed to tutor you or take notes within class if you’re unable to attend.
5 pts. – A servant of note, skilled, intelligent and loyal. Be it demon or man, it will lay its life down at your command. Usually having some ability in magic or equipped with items that give it both offensive and defensive options. Allowed to attend to your needs at all times while on school grounds (outside of the classroom).
3 pts. – A non-human servant with some magical abilities (like Dobby the House Elf), everything else as per a 2 point servant.
2pts – A humanoid servant (likely human), which has one special talent or ability. Generally loyal, possibly even risking his/her own life when yours is in danger.
1pts- A humanoid servant (likely human) that has no unusual talents or abilities. Required to sleep in the Servant Quarters and do minor housekeeping tasks. Loyalty is based on the treatment from its Master (you). This type of servant could either be a slave or paid employee.
0 pts – No Servant for you (which is normal at school).
-1 pts. – A normal 1 point servant, yet one with unusual or peculiar habits or behaviors that will cause its owner to be ridicule if found out.
-3 pts. – In your service, you have some dark and dangerous beast, which if it comes to light will get you expelled. Be it a ghoul in the school’s sewers or a vampire within the woods, its loyalty to you is only as strong as it’s fear.

Families and Pets

Note: Though they are similar to familiars in many ways, wizarding animals are companions and allies, not familiars in the usual AD&D sense.

5 pts. – Demon/Creature of Legend: any minor demon of chaos (Please no Fire Angels!) or mystical beasts like a phoenix and such (Please no Unicorns!).
3 pts. – Creature of the Abyss: a minor creature from the Rim.
2 pts. - Mystical Creature: a creature that is far from mundane (like a fay horse or a talking cat), yet appears to be one to the uninformed or unwise.
1 pts. – A normal animal (like a cat, toad, bird) with a slightly higher IQ.
0 pts. – No pet for you.
-1 pts. – Troublesome pet: just like a +1 pts creature but this one has a habit of getting its owner into trouble (think Crookshanks).
-2 pts. – Hideous: just like a +1 creature, but this one is ugly or even repulsive to some (think Scabbers).
-3 pts. – Dark Marked: just like a +1 or better creature, but will bring ruination upon its owner sooner or later (think Scabbers being Peter Pettigrew, Deatheater).

Note- Instead of mail owls, in this campaign they use a small flying reptilian creature called a “Hiss” which can use shadow paths. Its normal variety cost 1 point, while it’s rarely and even more intelligent breed cost 2 points (it has a poisonous bite).

Items

On top of the normal cost of items within the ARPG, you have these added costs. Max is ten points spent per each items, then you add these following cost. All items must be approved by the GM before play!

3 pts – This item and its use by you are approved by the school’s headmaster. While the item can be impounded due to abuse, it can never be permanently taken away from you (think Hermione’s Time Turner).
2 pts – Overlooked: For some strange and unexplained reason, this item and its use are overlooked by the school’s headmaster and some members of staff. Yet there is still a danger, for certain staff members will surely confiscate it, if they found it on your personal or in use (think Harry’s invisibility cloak).
1 pts – Smuggled goods: somehow you got this into school grounds, but woe if anyone caught you with it, for surely you would have it confiscated and face detention (think the Marauder’s Map).
0 pts. – N/A
-1 pts – Smuggled goods of the darker sort (like things that can kill, as in a nasty enchanted sword): somehow you got this into school grounds, but woe if anyone caught you with it, for surely you would have it confiscated and face double detention (think Malfoy’s hand of glory).
-2 pts. – Stolen property: in your possession, you have something stolen either from another student or from a school staff member. If found out, it will likely be a very long detention for you.
-3 pts. – You’re in possession of something truly dark and dangerous, and if it were ever to come to light, you would surely be expelled from school.

Good Stuff/ Bad Stuff
10 pts – 1 point of general good stuff as per book.
5 pts – a blessing, which is like a point of good stuff but for a pre-agreed narrow condition or event.
0 pts – Relying on your role-playing ability only.
-5 pts – Cursed! Under a curse of some sorts, which will cause problems within some narrow conditions or events.
-10 pts – Totally Screwed – 1 point of general bad stuff per book.
