Also going to steal this idea from ‘Panty Explosion” the RPG about Best Friend and Rival.

Every Student has someone she trusts more than anyone else. A friend who she tells her secrets to, a constant companion or a person she admires. Select one of the other players Students as your Best Friend. Now select another players Student as your Rival. A Rival may be someone your Student hates with all her heart, someone she competes against or someone she just doesn’t like much. Keep in mind that your admiration or dislike for other Students may not be mutual. The Student you choose as your Best Friend may not choose you to be her Best Friend. She may even decide to make you her Rival!

I’ve figured a way to import a mechanical effect to "Best Friend/Rival" like they have in Panty Explosion. If your BF or Rival knows of a event/occurrences/happenings which involves you, they can either make it better or worst. While of course, in some situations this effect could be difficult to impose but I look towards it to add game favor and role playing opportunities then a "Gotch you, you're expelled!" type of outcome.

So say, Kate is late for class due too much kissing with her new boyfriend. Aura being her Rival, sees Kate is late and points it out to the teacher. But Battlebooze being Kate's Best Friend, makes a quick excuse (lie) for his friend and Kate doesn't get in any more trouble when she shows up.

Or say,

Kate is about to hit the troll with a spell, since Battlebooze got her back... her spells has a little more power to harm the troll.

Now Kate was there by herself and fighting the troll, things could become alot worst if Aura suddenly showed-up instead. Doesn't mean Aura would help the troll, but she could rat out Kate to the Teachers.

Or in other words, a best friend acts as a temporary point of good stuff when around. While a Rival acts as one point of temporary point of bad stuff when around.
